Calm Corner: Nurturing Emotional Well-Being in Classrooms
"Calm minds bring inner strength and self-confidence." – Dalai Lama
Brahm Dutt Blue Bells Public School, under the aegis of Adept – A Program for Enhancing Life Skills, powered by Wellnesswise.in, is embracing innovation in socio emotional learning by introducing the Calm Corner in the classrooms of its Pre-primary wing,
This designated space is designed to help students relax and self-regulate when feeling overwhelmed, anxious or upset. The unique concept of curating a Calm Corner for students’ socio-emotional well-being is the brainchild of our visionary, Dr. Alka Saxena, Deputy Director (Health & Wellness), BBGS.
To support this initiative, a training session for teachers was conducted by the Health & Wellness team on October 23, 2024, with the objective to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills to create a Calm Corner in their classrooms and to enhance their understanding of the importance of social – emotional learning and its impact on students academic and personal growth.
The Calm Corner will empower students to identify and regulate their emotions, enabling them to return to classroom activities with renewed focus, thereby optimizing their cognitive readiness for learning. It also aims to preserve students' dignity while helping them build confidence in managing challenges. They will be able to access this tranquil space during moments of emotional distress, and further be able to return to a calm state so that they can participate effectively in classroom activities.
The Calm Corner will further assist students in navigating their emotions effectively, cultivating a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere that sets the foundation for success both in school and beyond.
